The West Highland Way

West Highland Way Log Book

In 2010 the West Highland Way, the challenging long distance walk covering some 95 miles between Milngavie in the outskirts of Glasgow and Fort William, became an extra mile longer.

Ordinarily, you might think that 95 miles was long enough, and why should you bother with yet another blister inducing, weary leg wobbling mile. But there is a plus side to quite literally going the "extra mile". And that is the new finish line is in fact almost right outside The Grog & Gruel. Handy, eh?!

The west end of the town's High Street has been 'refurbished' and a new statue keeps an eye on the official finish line of the West Highland Way.

What better way to finish a week out in the wilds of Scotland's finest scenery (and quite likely weather too) than with a pint/coffee/feed* at Fort William's favourite pub and restaurant!

The West Highland Way Log Book

For those of you planning to tackle the 96 mile (was 95 remember!) trek from Milngavie to Fort William we are participating in a log book and certificate scheme.

You collect your log book as you start the walk, as you travel you pop into the different hostelries and establishments along the way getting your log book stamped.

At the final stop here at The Grog & Gruel, you can collect the final stamp to complete your log book and collect your certificate to show to all your friends.

West Highland Way CertificateThe scheme will costs a modest £5 administration fee, the proceeds of which are split between a donation to help maintain the way and funding the recently opened Independent Tourism Point in Milngavie.

For more information on how to register for the scheme, visit the West Highland Way Information Point in Milngavie. Alternatively, if walking north to south, come along and see us at The Grog & Gruel.

The Grog & Gruel also stocks a limit number of the commemorative medals.
