'Uisge Beatha' - The Water of Life

Whisky from Ben Nevis DistilleryWe firmly believe that any sell respecting Highland pub should stock a good selection of the Highland's most famous product; Uisge Beatha, Malt Whisky or The Water of Life!

At The Grog & Gruel, our shelves are usually full of different malts for your tasting pleasure, with about 60 available at any one time. The stock will vary but will usually include a good cross section of Highland, Island, Speyside and Lowland malts to ensure that there's plenty of opportunity to compare and contrast.

It will take a fair bit of research to find your favourite - just don't try and do it all on the same night!

Dew of the Ben

The barrels in the bar once contained plenty of it! We make a point of always having plenty of Fort William's very own malts, made from the waters than run off Ben Nevis, Britain's highest mountain, which just so happens to overlook Fort William.

The Dew of the Ben is a popular blend, and we'll always have plenty of 10 Year Old Ben Nevis Single Malt 46%. In addition, look out for the McDonald's Glencoe 8 Year Old Vatted Malt 58%, also from the Ben Nevis Distillery (well worth a call in at the Visitor Centre!), and the odd special like the 14 Year Old Ben Nevis Malt.

Peaty Malt

Peaty Malt WhiskyMountain Bike fans will love this one. Unique to the home of the Mountain Bike World Cup and 2007 World Championship Downhill course, this rather special single malt appeared in homage to our favourite World Champ customer with the aviator glasses, Steve Peat.

Tasting Notes:
Distilled from the waters running off the World Championship downhill course, giving it a distinctly "Peaty"characteristic. A champion amongst its peers, evoking a great sense of national pride in the drinker. Always goes down very quickly.

Go Steve... Go Steve....!
